| Bio: | ![]() Rocky Mountain National Park, CO; July 2007 In a nutshell? I'm one of those 20somethings who has no idea what she's doing with life and yes, I'm having that oh-so-cliched quarter-life crisis. And yes, I think that's gay, too. Not in a nutshell? I'm a walking contradiction. I'm a Coach-carrying, M*A*C-wearing, FMB-strutting, high heel-loving girly-girl but the next day you can find me tailgating at an Eagle's game or blowing off some steam at the shooting range (yes, you read that correctly). I love reading, traveling, and photography. Jager, Malibu and Coke, Bacardi O and Red Bull, dark chocolate, romance, cowboys, and guys with accents are my weaknesses. I hate drama. I love laughing. Nothing beats having drinks and a night out on the town with the girls; I'd be lost without them. I don't believe in regret. I don't settle for second best or anything less than butterflies. Good music soothes my soul. I know I'm capable of so much more but I still doubt myself. I feel like I'm not where I belong. If I could, I'd be backpacking through Europe and spending as much time as possible in Ireland. I'm Irish to the core and if you saw me in New Orleans (my second home, thanks to my cousins) you'd know what I was talking about. I'm a firm believer in hugs and remember great hugs more than great kisses (but I still really love kissing). I don't let go very easily. Everything else is merely details. Currently listening to: Bon Jovi "Lost Highway" Currently reading: GRE review books; On Combat: The Psychology and Physiology of Deadly Conflict in War and Peace by Lt. Col. Dave Grossman On deck: Guests of the Ayatollah: The First Battle in America's War with Militant Islam by Mark Bowden; In the Company of Soldiers: A Chronicle of Combat by Rick Atkinson; Battle Ready by Tom Clancy with General Tony Zinni (Ret.); State of Denial: Bush at War, Part III by Bob Woodward; Blood Brothers: Among the Soldiers of Ward 57 by Michael Weisskopf Finished: Beyond Glory: Medal of Honor Heroes in Their Own Words by Larry Smith; Rule Number 2 by Heidi Squier Kraft; Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert; The Gift of Valor: A War Story by Michael M. Phillips Favorite quotes: "We must be willing to get rid of the life we've planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us." "You cannot hammer a girl into anything. She grows as a flower does, she will wither without sun; she will decay in her sheath as a narcissus if you do not give her air enough; she might fall and defile her head in dust if you leave her without help at some moments in her life; but you cannot fetter her; she must take her own fair form and way if she take any." ~ John Ruskin "She’s tough, she tries to hide it. She’s difficult, but if you make the effort, she’s worth it." ~ Grey’s Anatomy "To change one's life: Start immediately. Do it flamboyantly." ~ William James "Don't be afraid to change; instead be afraid to stay where you are. If you let fear of change rule you, you will live never knowing if there is a fuller life out there that is yours for the taking." "You're alive. Do something. The directive in life, the moral imperative was so uncomplicated. It could be expressed in single words, not complete sentences. It sounded like this: Look. Listen. Choose. Act." ~ Barbara Hall "Life is short. Break the rules, forgive quickly, kiss slowly, love truly, laugh uncontrollably, and never regret anything that made you smile." "Love is all a matter of timing. It’s no good meeting the right person too soon or too late. If I’d have lived in another time or place, my story might’ve had a very different ending." "I do my thing and you do your thing. You are you and I am I. And if we end up together in the end...it's beautiful." "A man who is good enough to shed blood for his country is good enough to be given a square deal afterwards." ~ Theodore Roosevelt "There were moments I worried that, much like a boyfriend you'd outgrown in high school, you could never recapture lost love. I understood the damage that anger and resentment could do to a relationship, but at times I seemed powerless to harness my feelings. It is scary to learn that the heart really does have a mind of its own. No amount of intellectualizing or should do's can make you love again. ~ Bob and Lee Woodruff In An Instant: A Family's Journey of Love and Healing "Put all the things that bother you, and keep you awake at night, and clog your head up, put all those things in a shoebox, put the lid on it, and deal with it later." ~ Colby Buzzell My War "Real leadership is motivating others under tremendous adversity." ~ Paul Rieckhoff Chasing Ghosts "I wanted to go to a place where the sun didn't shine: either the Army or the Peace Corps. Both were demanding and intense. Both involved travel. Both were opportunities to better the world and participate in something larger than myself. Both offered shitty pay. The Peace Corps had women. But in the Army, you got to shoot guns, jump out of airplanes, and blow things up. No contest." ~ Paul Rieckhoff Chasing Ghosts "Truth is the first casulty of war." ~ Paul Rieckhoff Chasing Ghosts "It takes more self-discipline to do hard things when nobody is making you." ~ Brad Kasal My Men Are My Heros "Doubt and fear of the unknown are powerful enemies but in the end the heart is an even more powerful force." ~ Brad Kasal My Men Are My Heros "Leadership is not about ego. It is about taking men into battle and keeping them alive. The best warriors make the best leaders because they can think and function effectively when surrounded by the chaotic hell of combat." ~ Brad Kasal My Men Are My Heros "The one thing Medal of Honor recipients share is that they have whatever it takes to go out and do what they did to get the Medal of Honor, whatever it is - the guts, the courage, or whatever. They had the guts, and stupidity too. I didn't have enough sense to come in out of the rain. But I was mad a lot of the time, pissed off. I can truthfully say I don't remember being scared to death. But I was God damn mad. Anger, hunger, and sex; those are the greatest instincts that we've got. Those are the things we are born with. What else is there?" ~ John William Finn, Medal of Honor recipient, in Beyond Glory: Medal of Honor Heroes in Their Own Words ![]() | |
